How do your marketing materials measure up?

• You have all of the following: a Web site; artist statement; résumé or biography; letterhead; business card; photographs of your work; thank-you cards; full-color postcards. 
• You might also have: a newsletter; brochure; catalogue; articles about your work.
• They have a consistent look and convey the same message: They are printed on the same color paper (hopefully white!) and the same font is used throughout. Read about branding yourself for more effective marketing.
  Use this great tool for a harmonious Web palette.
• The articles about you and your work have been photocopied and are ready to go.
• Photographs of your artwork are as good as if not BETTER than the work itself. If you're not a terrific photographer, you always hire someone who knows what they're doing. Your photos are labeled with your copyright and photographer's credit.
• You use a plain and simple font (i.e. easy to read!) for major portions of text.
• You have an email signature block that automatically attaches to your correspondence. It contains your contact info and a link to your Web site.
• There are no funky fonts or logos that detract from the appreciation of your artwork. (There are sometimes exceptions for artists who are marketing a particular look or feeling that is part of their art.)
• There is no annoying music blasting from your Web site.
• Everything has been spell-checked and edited by someone other than yourself.
• They contain your name, business name (if applicable), address, Web site URL, email address, and phone number.
• You can put together a promotional packet in no time (because everything is ready to go!).
